Our Vines Have Tender Grapes (1945)
This poetically named film (title taken from the Bible) stars Edward G. Robinson - best known for his gangster roles through the 30s and 40s - playing a forgiving and understanding Norwegian farmer trying to raise a family in turn-of-the-century Midwest. Margaret O’Brien is the daughter and Agnes Moorehead is the mother in a heartwarming immigrant drama - a subgenre we hear little of nowadays.
